Almost all apps or pieces of software use a large amount of data, and this data must be stored somewhere – in a database. Imagine, e.g., an online store which displays thousands of products, or an accounting system where all a particular company’s accounts and documents are administered. Without a database, we wouldn’t have anywhere to save data to, and so would be unable to work with it. Databases usually comprise a number of tables, which are linked to each other in various ways. Look at the example below:
The entire database comprises 9 tables, linked to each other in various ways, or having various relations.
Database types
There are a large number of types of database, of which the most well-known and most used include:
- MySQL
- MSSQL
- MSSQL Server
- PL/SQL
- Oracle db
- PostgreSQL
